On my Chicagoland History site, I've just completed the page on the Fox River Picnic Grove. Begun in 1900 by Eman Opatrny, this pleasant site along the Fox River was a very popular spot for picnics, boating and dancing. Louis Cernocky Jr. bought the property in 1943 and ran it for the next two decades. He added more amenities, including kiddie rides, a ski hill and the Grove Marina lounge and restaurant. You can read more about it here: chicagolandhistory.angelfire.com/foxriverpicnicgrove.html
