RetroLisa 10-12-2009 Last May, I was watching some YouTube videos of the Smothers Brothers, and on a whim I decided to see if they were doing any concerts in my area. Lo and behold, I found that they were coming to Aurora in October! So I got tickets for myself and a friend at a "ticket party" for the Paramount Theatre's 2009-2010 season. Being on a mailing list paid off! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) ![](http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg206/lisajustinboard/personal/smobro1.jpg) Yesterday was my concert! It was fantastic! The guys are as funny as ever. A bit older, a bit greyer, but still incredibly funny. Even the routines I've seen before made me laugh all over again. Tommy Smothers is such a natural comedian, and he plays the "dumb" brother to perfection. Dick Smothers is the perfect straight man....there were times when all I could do was wonder how he kept a straight face during all of Tommy's silliness ![(rofl)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/rofl.png) They made a few political references, but for the most part, the routines consisted of their trademark brotherly bickering. My dad said, "I'll bet they're a little more raunchy when they're not on TV," but they weren't. They did utter an occasional "grown-up word" when the joke called for it, but everything was clean and tasteful. They are marvelous musicians, too. Tommy is a very talented guitarist, and their voices sound really good, especially when they harmonize. I could listen to them sing all day! There was an appearance by the "Yo-Yo Man," and they showed a video montage of early family photos and clips from their TV show. I was wondering if I'd be the youngest person there (I'm 46), but there was a wide variety of ages. It was a great show! ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) ![](http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg206/lisajustinboard/personal/smobro2.jpg) I have dim memories of watching their TV show as a kid in the 60s. I watched their 20th anniversary reunion show in 1988, and when it was made into a short-lived series, I never missed it. They deliver their opinions with grace and humor, and I think they are incredibly talented, as both comedians and musicians. Dick did most of the talking (when Tommy wasn't being silly), and I find his voice to be quite pleasant to listen to ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Like the Moody Blues, they have had an incredibly long and successful career. They stayed true to themselves, and because of that, they were hugely influential and are well-respected today.
